“Well ain't that some shit.” [break][break]

Jethro wiped the sweat from his brow with the back of his hand as he stared at the precarious bundle of twigs poking out from the large planter in front of the Lavaridge Pokemon Center. Judging from it's shoddy construction and the dull gray feathers left behind, it was probably a Pidove's nest, or a nest belonging to it's larger kin. [break][break]

Those birds were dumber than rocks, Jethro had found over the course of his former career as a Ranger. They'd build their nests in the most obnoxious places; on top of street lights, in an open trash can, and once, stretched across a couple of low-hanging branches precariously danging above a rushing river. [break][break]

As he stared at the nest, two thoughts occurred to him, the first of which being that he really hoped that the postal workers were sending someone out to relocate it. Dumb though they may be, Pidove were still one of Arceus' creations, and it wasn't their fault that their god had given them shit for brains. The second thought was a more puzzling one; some of the feathers looked freshly molted, so surely this nest hadn't been abandoned. Where were the birds? [break][break]

Suddenly, the hairs on the back of Jethro's neck stood on end. For a moment, he was struck by the feeling that he was being watched.

The small growls and hisses of the Gabite near her while Gwen was up on the roof, trying to carefully collect some of the nests seated on the roof of the PokeMart. The birds in Lavaridge, for whatever reason, had been high active as of late for a reason that she couldn't really understand. Nests were all around the town and somebody had to do something!

"Gishath, no." She said sternly, trying to reach another bird nest while her partner was hunting for eggs. "They're not for eating. Get away from the nests." Gwen warned then continued cleaning up the rooftops.

The Gabite threw a small tantrum and huffed before spotting another person looking up at one of the nests. Seeing this as an opportunity, the Gabite waddled over towards Jethro until he was a few feet away. The Pokemon then waited with his eyes latched onto Jethro, waiting for him to retrieve the bird's nest.

Jethro suddenly looked up from the planter-turned-bird nest only to see a pair of bright yellow eyes staring back. From the rooftop above, a Gabite peered directly down at him with patient curiosity, [break][break]

“What're you lookin' at, boy?” [break][break]

Maybe the Dragon-type was waiting for the nest owners to return so he could secure himself a tasty meal? Maybe he was deciding whether or not Jethro would make a tasty meal. Dragons were simultaneously smarter and dumber than most people gave them credit for. [break][break]

It was then that Jethro noticed the young redhead collecting nests nearby, carefully working her way across the rooftop above to relocate what was, quite frankly, an alarming number of them. He raised his voice to carry his words from where he stood on the ground below, [break][break]

“Little lady, I think yer Gabite is givin' me the stink eye.”

Gishath hissed at the man in response to his question. The Gabite wagged his dorsal fin and let out a soft growl while then kicking sand at Jethro, as a grumpy Gabite did. Gwendolyn looked over just in time before groaning at what her Pokemon was up to. A sharp whistle left her lips as Gishath looked back to her and waddled over.

"Gishath! Sorry about that, he's just picky about the eggs in these sometimes. I don't even know if it would be good for him." she sighed. The girl carefully jumped down from the roofs and gave a nod as the nests in her hand were just above where the Gabite could reach.

"I'm Gwen and this is my partner, Gishath. We're rangers that he dispatched to try and relocate the nests here before they got too out of hand. I'm guessing you're under that same banner?"

She motioned to the work that Jethro had done and then around at their surroundings at what work they had left. It was going to be a long one, based on the numerous nests sitting just out of reach.

"I picked a bad day to not have a flying type." Gwen pursed her lips and looked to the other man. "Wanna team up for a bit?"

Ah, the childish posturing of a Dragon not yet grown. His impetuousness was actually kinda cute, even if it meant that Jethro had come perilously close to getting sand in his eyes. The ex-Ranger dusted the grainy debris off of his clothes as the girl landed nearby. [break][break]

His eyes narrowed somewhat at her introductions and assumptions. Jethro nodded in reply, but was quick to correct her, [break][break]

“Name's Jethro. Been retired for a spell, but some things never leave ya.” [break][break]

Which was one reason why he wasn't immediately opposed to the idea of pitching in proper with the nest cleanup. There was still some sort of distant calling to the work, aching like the pains of a phantom limb, that couldn't be sated by any means outside of getting involved and helping. Jethro also couldn't ever deny a direct request for aid, a fact of life that he had long since resigned himself to, [break][break]

“Sure,” he replied, moving to release a Poke Ball from his waist. [break][break]

Jethro clicked open the capsule to reveal a Snorlax, who, with some instruction, began to carefully gather the branches that had been delicately arranged in the planter, [break][break]

“Gotta move quick, though. The homeowners' ain't gonna be none too happy once they circle back 'round.” [break][break]

Distantly, Jethro thought he caught the sound of flapping wings. He hoped it was just his imagination, because the last thing he wanted to do was get caught by a flock of pissed-off pigeons.
